Welcome to the Space Coast and welcome to CRUISE COCOA’s blog. We would like to introduce you to the rich history, culture, environment, and the wildlife that inhabits our beautiful state of FLORIDA.

Florida is known for having “themed” coast lines. CRUISE COCOA calls the Space Coast home. Located on the eastern coast of Florida stretching 72 miles north to south.

Kennedy Space Center

It is most famously known for the location of the Kenedy Space Center. The awe and wonder of watching rockets heading to space have captured the minds and hearts of many. Even the local area code of 321 reflects the enthusiasm of the rockets count down.

Kennedy Space Center is located on Merritt Island only an hour away from Orlando. Over 1 million people visit the Kennedy Space Center every year. Where they can see space exhibits, displays, old rockets, memorabilia and even take a bus tour of the grounds or have lunch with an actual astronaut. It was named after former President John F Kennedy. It became well known for the manned missions to space. They chose to build Kennedy Space center in this part of Florida because of the earth’s rotation and proximity to the equator. The earth spins west to east and faster at the equator, this assists in the ease and safety for the launches.

Cape Canaveral Space Force

It all started back in the 50’s when the Cape Canaveral Air Force base used this area for the Eastern Target Range. Serval milestones have been made since then including the construction of the Kennedy Space Center and all their achievements through the years.

Today the space coast has expanded their heavy hitters to include some large companies. Such as Blue Origin, Boeing Space, Dassault Falcon, Embraer, Lockheed Martin, L3Harris, Northrup Grumman, NASA and SpaceX

Port Canaveral

If you visit the Cape Canaveral Port on the right day, you can catch the retrieval vessels BOB and/or DOUG. Named after Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken. Who flew on the first crewed demonstration flight of SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft in 2020. Most of the time bringing the booster and fairings back. All while you and enjoy a meal or cocktail at one of the port’s many waterfront restaurants. Local Favorites such Fish Lips, Rusty’s or Grills.
